As a dance camp counsellor at a summer camp in the USA you will need to be able to do and teach a range of techniques in your chosen style. Common themes that run across all styles is the ability to choreograph numbers, help with rhythm and coordination, lead warmups and cooldowns plus experience with blocking and stage direction. If you have experience in multiple styles, you can work in multiple genres.
You will need patience, good organisational, team-working and leadership skills and most importantly, a love of dance. Experience in at least one dance style including ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern contemporary or tap is required. Rhythm, coordination and creativity are important skills to have in order to set a good example to the children and to produce exciting routines that they will enjoy learning and performing.

Not necessarily. Previous dance teaching experience is very valuable to enhance your application, even if this is just helping out at your local dance club or volunteering with the younger years doing dance at school. If you don't have this experience, don't worry. As long as you are a skilled and knowledgeable dancer, there will be camps interested in you.
Absolutely. Camps typically hire a combination of counsellors with experience in different styles. Some camps may hire counsellors for each style individually, where others may be looking for general dance counsellors who can be versatile in their teaching.
