As a drama counsellor you will work with groups of children of a range of ages and abilities. You may work across different genres, including musical theatre, comedy, improvisation, mime, physical theatre and Shakespeare. You may need to plan sessions including warm up exercises, hold auditions, assign parts, run lines and offer stage direction. You need to be creative, imaginative and confident. Most importantly your enthusiasm should be contagious, inspiring the next generation of superstars.
You should have experience acting in different genres and shows including comedy, musical theatre, physical theatre and Shakespeare. Skills may include improvisation, movement work, stage direction, singing, stage combat, textural interpretation and mime. You should be familiar not only with being on stage, but working behind the scenes to help children learn lines, assign parts and make edits to plays. You need to be confident and comfortable in the spotlight and most importantly, passionate and enthusiastic about drama.

Yes. Many camps offer drama counsellor roles which may have elements of musical theatre. So, if you're a triple threat and can sing, act and dance, this might be the summer job for you!
You should include a list of all of the shows and productions you've been in, including any TV or film performances and voice work. Where possible, include videos of you performing on your profile. Include any experience you have teaching drama, especially to children, even if this is just volunteering with your local drama club!
Yes. LARP / RPG is an immersive form of drama to build a shared story. It is becoming increasingly popular with summer camps and has a high hiring demand. If you have experience with LARP or RPG we strongly recommend that you apply!
